December 9 Advent Devotion Written by Skye Gabbard

I chose the scripture of Isaiah, chapter 35, verses 3-7. I chose this scripture because it talked about swimming pools. I love swimming. I have swum in pools all around the country and in other countries. In the scripture, it says that the burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground, and bubbling springs. Another thing that stood out to me is that the eyes of the blind will be opened, the ears of the deaf unstopped, and the mute tongue shout for joy! That stood out to me because I think that it is unfair that people have to be born with disabilities such as being blind, deaf, or not able to speak.

Another part of the scripture spoke out to me also: “Be strong, and do not fear, your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you!” I thought that this quote from the Bible also spoke to me because I want the lord to come now, but he has his own time to come out and save us once more. During this Christmas season, I want you to take your time to spend your day with someone who can’t see, hear, or speak. They need someone to have fun with once in a while.

Let us pray:

Dear God, Thank you for Christmas and for sending Jesus to take our sins away. Please help anyone who is having a hard time with their disability that they have. Help us be more encouraging to other people who can’t do the things that we can. Help us to have a good rest of our life, and a good Christmas. Amen.
