Worship Committee Reflections Highlights

Worship Committee | July 30, 2024

During the month of June, the Worship Committee asked worshippers to share what they value in their worship experiences and preferences.  You responded to writing prompts as follows:

  • June 2: What helps you worship?
  • June 16: In your worship experience today, what helped you worship?
  • June 30: What do you look forward to when you come to worship? What do you take with you?

Each week, approximately 50 responses were received.  The responses were tallied according to broad topics such as music, sermon and reflection.  The largest number of responses were related to:

  • Music: all kinds of music!  Choral, congregational, organ, piano, guitar, old hymns, newer songs.
  • Reflection: time away from the noise of life – to reflect, feel close to God, listen, renew, be calm.
  • Community: appreciation for fellowship, connection, interaction with others.
  • Sermon: proclamation of the good news, lessons.
  • Scripture, Prayer, Testimonies, and Stories: Praising God and feeling close to God through worship and experience of others.

There were many more items with a few mentions such as welcoming of all, communion, variety of worship leaders and mix of worship elements, energy and hope, visual worship items and justice and mission projects.  It seems that most services have something for everyone.

The Worship Committee is grateful for the participation in this writing process and the responses are helpful in planning future worship experiences.
