Upcoming Worship Services

Aaron Austin | August 27, 2024

We're excited to welcome several guest preachers this fall.  From familiar voices to leadership from our denominational partners, we welcome these friends in the faith. Times of transition can sometimes open our hearts and minds to the presence of God moving in us, among us, and beyond us in fresh ways.  As we continue in the traditions of our worship together, perhaps we'll have the opportunity to see the guidance of God in our past, present, and future from this unique vista.  Here's what's happening in upcoming worship services this fall:

September 1: A Service of Testimonies and Prayers

This Sunday we'll hear testimonies from friends in our Central family about joys from our journeys together, gratitude for God's continuing work in our lives, and hope for our future.  We'll also take time to pray for open hearts as we celebrate God's presence and discern God's guidance.

September 8: Guest Preacher Jan Cottrell

We're grateful for long-time friend of Central Rev. Dr. Jan Cottrell who will preach this Sunday.  Jan is a retired Episcopal Priest and therapist who always brings a gracious presence and insightful reading of the scriptures.

September 15: Aaron Austin Preaches

This Sunday we'll reflect on the way of Jesus as an invitation to surrender and an invitation to heartful action.  As Jesus relinqueshes power and lives out of his true identity as God's beloved, he highlights a way of compassionate action untethered to the demands of ego and empire.  In times of tension and anxiety, we can find space for hopeful action from this space of deep connection with the Divine.

September 22: Deacon Ordination

Join us for deacon ordination as we welcome Hannah James and Mary Kathryn Tri to deacon service.  This will be a wonderful time to hear about their faith journeys and affirm their ministries at Central.  Charles Conkin will offer the homily before the laying on of hands.

September 29: Larry Gray Preaches

This Sunday, we're excited to welcome Larry Gray as our guest preacher.  Larry and Mary Ida were long-time members of Central and we are grateful for their presence with us as we walk through this transition together.

October 6: Rev. Dr. Brian Henderson Preaches

Brian Henderson, Executive Director of the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists will preach on October 6.  We're glad to welcome Brian back with us again and to hear about the good work AWAB is doing.  We'll also celebrate communion together.

October 13: Charles Conkin Preaches

On October 13 we'll hear from our Associate Pastor Charles Conkin. As we worship together, we celebrate the Living Christ in us, among us, and beyond us on every step of our journey.

October 20: Rev. Dr. Meredith Stone Preaches

Meredith Stone, Executive Director of Baptist Women in Ministry will preach on October 20.  We are excited to welcome Meredith and hear about the import work for gender equality she undertakes with BWIM.

October 27: Rev. Sharon Felton Preaches

Sharon Felton, CBF Congregational Advocacy Manager will preach on October 27.  Sharon works with congregations, states and regions to develop and enhance advocacy efforts within their communities, and is currently working on voting rights issues.

November 3: All Saints Day Worship

Join us for a service of testimonies, prayers, and communion as we remember the great cloud of witnesses that surround us.

November 11: Rev. Bob Fox Preaches

On November 11 we welcome Bob Fox, CBF Kentucky Coordinator as our guest preacher.  A long-time Baptist minister and Kentucky native, we are grateful for his work with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Kentucky and his presence with us.

Join us as we continue to walk this journey of faith together.
