Eat, drink, sing, dance, and giggle in Christ? - TALENT SHOW comes to CBC
"...Eat your food with gladness, and drink wine with a joyful heart, for God has approved what you do." (Ecclesiastes 9:7)
What amazing energy was in this place Wednesday night! The choir was rehearsing full scale again after a break during Christmas. Girls were practicing an originally-written script in one corner, down the hall another group rehearsing a pantomime, sounds of a violin rose above the hubbub in the hallway as the giggles of "30-somethings" learning a dance came from a gym full of kids playing together, and then blue grass pickin' and grinnin' could be heard just down the hallway! A talent show is coming to CBC!
More than just a talent show, there was excitement to be preparing for a shared experience. The choir gets to experiece this type of preparation for worship weekly, but most folks are not involved in worship on a weekly basis. Do I mean to say that the Talent show will be a worship service?? No, not as one would expect, but I do believe where we are all gathered together and sharing together that Jesus is among us laughing all the while, too. (Matthew 18:20)
In the midst of all that was going on Wednesday, a guest walked through our doors who had never been in our space before. Her eyes widened when two purple "blobs" walked by going back to the youth room to prepare their work, and she was caught off guard to hear Imagine Dragons' Radioactive coming from the gym. "Wow! This is a busy place," she said. It was with great enthusiasm that several folks even invited her to return to our church for services and to the Talent show. It was beautiful to witness.
Indeed, Central was a hub of activity full of glorious energy Wednesday night as everyone prepared for Sunday - the electricity among the family of CBC was palpable. The verse of Ecclesiastes comes to mind as I prepare to return to the building that Central Baptist Church family calls home this Sunday. We will share together in the bread and wine -eating and drinking with joyful celebration for the gift of Jesus and the promises lived together when we share communion. Then, Sunday evening we will return for an evening filled with sharing life -and laughs - together at our church talent show...and it promises to leave our hearts joyful and I believe God definitely approves.
