Learning from the Woman at the Foot of the Cross
This week for Palm Sunday our Gospel Proclaimer is church member Rachel Childress. Rachel is the current CEO of Lexington Habitat for Humanity and will be leading us in examing John 19:25b-27. This story jumps us ahead from the celebration of the Palms to the terrible suffering of Good Friday. Gathered there are faithful women including Jesus' own mother, who each are his disciples and join with the Beloved Disciple at the foot of the cross. This tender scene of love and devotion offered while faced with the gruesome suffering of our Lord is especially poignant to us. May we consider our faithfulness as we too travel and experience the joys, struggles, and challenges of living between times of hope and disappointment, compassion and worry, indeed, between life and death itself.
