During the season of Lent, we will encounter familiar texts from women's perspectives as we are guided by Dr. Wilda Gafney's “Woman’s Lectionary For The Whole Church.” This week we welcome guest preacher Pastor Sherry Gay-Green.

Pastor Sherry Gay-Green is the pastor of St. Paul AME Church in Richmond, KY. Born in Lexington, Kentucky, she graduated from Bryan Station High School. She earned earned BA and MS degrees in Social Work from the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville, respectively. Later, she studied at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, where she received a Master of Divinity and Master of Arts with a concentration in Black Church Studies.

After serving nearly three decades as a program analyst for the Lexington Department of Agriculture, she has continued to work as a mental health coordinator, a substitute instructor in both Fayette and Garrard Counties, and a case manager at the Garrard County Senior Citizens Center in Lancaster, KY. After being ordained as an itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, she was appointed as pastor of St. Paul AME Church, Richmond, KY in 2021.

Pastor Gay-Green has one brother and three sisters. She married her high school sweetheart, William “Sam” Baker Green, Jr., on August 28, 1971, and celebrated their 50th golden anniversary on August 28, 2021. From this union they have two adult daughters, 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
