Our fellowship meals are always free, but during our fellowship meals, we have the opportunity to give back a little to our community. We often receive requests for help with rent, utilities, groceries, and other vital needs. Donations to this fund will be used by the church to offer assistance to our community and our church family. The namesake of this fund, Luther Emerson, was one of the early members of Central, joining in early 1954. He was a long-serving deacon who frequently served as a member or chair of the Benevolence Committee when it was administered by that body. Emerson died in December 1974, and the church named the Benevolence Fund for him in 1974. He was father of CBC member Francis Hancock and grandfather of Greg Hancock.
