The Boomer's May activity will be a visit to the Valley View Ferry on Thursday, May 14 at 10:30 AM. The Ferry is located out Tates Creek Rd at the Kentucky River - about 11 miles from Lexington. (This is at the Fayette-Madison-Jessamine County lines.) Established in 1785 (before Kentucky was even a state), the ferry is considered to be Kentucky's oldest continuously operating business. It transports up to three cars at a time across the Kentucky River in about three minutes. James Street was the captain of the Ferry for a few years after retiring from Eastern Kentucky University. He will share with us about the operation and history of the Ferry. Of course, we'll also have lunch nearby afterward. Please Pat Ingram (patingram609@aol.com) know by Tuesday, May 12 if you plan to join!
